I’m not a “pick yourself up by the bootstraps” kinda gal. I’m more of a “give it to you straight and let’s figure your shit out” friend. I operate best when someone gives me a plan and that’s what I want to do for you today. Rather than beat around the bush, I’m going to challenge you to make one change that will make a world of difference.
Someone reached out recently and shared a story that gave me a pit in my stomach. A local business couldn’t run their day-to-day operations because their internet had been disconnected. After a few phone calls, they quickly discovered the business owner forgot to pay his bill. Not for lack of funds, but simply because a system was broken.
As I stood there listening to this individual share their frustration, the only thought running through my head was “why didn’t they outsource their bill pay?”. Regardless of the decision to cling tight to their bank account, this mistake, which resulted in lost business and late fees is something that was easily avoidable.
Do you want to know the one change that will make a world of difference in your business?
Outsource.
You see, we spend our time and energy on things that quite honestly, we shouldn’t. Remember, just because you can do it doesn’t mean you should do it.
I like to think of it this way… whenever I eat a few extra cookies after telling my kids they can only have one, inevitably, there is always whining. My response as Mother of the year is “I’m an adult and I can”. That doesn’t serve me well, does it? Just because I can eat a sleeve of Oreos doesn’t mean I should.
Same with your business. You’re probably capable of paying your own bills. For those of us who didn’t know if our crazy business idea would take off, there’s a sense of satisfaction when we sign that check or click submit. I get it! But friend, the truth is, your business will not thrive as long as you hold onto the things you should outsource.
This week, I want you to pick one thing to outsource. One. It doesn’t have to be a big, robust task. Here is a list to choose from:
- Schedule a doctor’s appointment
- Email Management
- Calendar Management
- Bill Pay
- Send out contracts
- Book travel
- Social Media Management
- Schedule a haircut (you know you need it!)
- Add school activities to your calendar
- Purchase gift for a client
The list is endless and you don’t have to focus on outsourcing everything at once. As soon as you outsource it, there are no take-backs! Move that task off your plate for good.
What is your Achilles heel? Outsource it.
I promise you! When you’re intentional and decide to make this one small change, it will make a world of difference in your business.
